We believe the Jewish community has a role and responsibility to ensure a free and fair election.

In the midst of the 2020 General Election season, Lippman Kanfer Foundation for Living Torah, which has worked at the intersection of Judaism and preserving democracy for many years, launched a campaign in support of Jewish organizations and leaders navigating the extraordinary climate of that election cycle.

We believe the Jewish community has a role to play in ensuring a free and fair election, and we are dedicated to helping prepare organizations and leaders with the resources necessary to understand the ambiguities and rapidly evolving situations in our country by responding to potential challenges and contributing to the health of our democracy.

Free&Fair is based on the following core principles:

  1. We are committed to the rule of law.

  2. We are committed to nonviolence between citizens and by the state.

  3. We are committed to a free and fair election in which everyone can vote, and every vote is counted.

Free&Fair has three asks of participating organizations:

  1. Actively speak to the need for a free & fair election. Using our resources or others, we ask that you actively engage your membership with correct, up-to-date information and ways to participate in the election process. We believe an educated and empowered populace allows for civil and productive conversation within and beyond the Jewish community.

  2. Support Jewish clergy and leaders as they serve their communities who likely feel fear, trepidation, and uncertainty in this election season. Attend or promote the trainings we surface, plan your own, or circulate others that feel appropriate.

  3. Close for business on Election Day and encourage your staff to use November 3 as a Day of Democracy during which they engage actively in the democratic process. Our goal, while ambitious, is to make this a practice across the more than 10,000 Jewish organizations operating in the United States today.
